The Toonkel residence included a new 4,100 square foot two-story residence with a pool, Jacuzzi, and sundecks. Contrasting the surrounding neighborhood, the house consists of a contemporary style with dramatic angles emphasizing the entrance and butterfly roof structure. The house is comprised of an L-shape volume, which contains the 16-foot high living/dining room space with views to the bay in the distance. The adjoining private living space contains five bedrooms, all overlooking the private terrace or the bay. A wall of storefront windows along the ground floor creates a permeable divide between the interior living room space and the terraced outdoor deck. Natural light is captured through clerestory windows in the main space and circular cut-outs over the patio entrance while maintaining a level of privacy and creating a whimsical play of light.
